Dr. John Kim
Dr. John Kim is a native of British Columbia and earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of British Columbia. He went on to complete his professional training at the State University of New York (SUNY) College of Optometry in New York City, where he received both his Doctor of Optometry (OD) and Master of Science in Vision Science (MS) degrees. He further advanced his expertise through a residency in Cornea and Contact Lenses at SUNY College of Optometry. Following his residency, Dr. Kim remained in academia for over a decade as a Clinical Professor at SUNY College of Optometry, where he was involved in the education and training of future optometrists. During this time, he also practiced at St. Mary’s Eye and Surgery Center, a respected ophthalmology group serving the New York Tri-State area. Dr. Kim has extensive experience in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of glaucoma, retinal disease, and pre- and post-operative surgical care. He also has a special interest in specialty contact lenses, keratoconus management, myopia control, pediatric eye care, and dry eye therapy. Dedicated to lifelong learning and patient-centered care, Dr. Kim is committed to helping patients achieve and maintain their best possible vision and eye health.
Dr. Joanne Chan
Dr. Joanne Chan was born and raised in Vancouver, British Columbia. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of British Columbia before pursuing her Doctor of Optometry degree at the State University of New York (SUNY) College of Optometry. Dr. Chan graduated with distinction and was inducted into the Beta Sigma Kappa International Optometric Honor Society. During her clinical training, Dr. Chan developed a strong foundation in medical optometry through externships at Gouverneur Hospital in New York and the Wilmington Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Delaware. These rotations emphasized the diagnosis and management of glaucoma, retinal disease, neuro-ophthalmic conditions, and systemic diseases with ocular manifestations. While Dr. Chan enjoys caring for patients of all ages, she has a particular interest in specialty contact lenses and myopia control. During her training at the University Optometric Center in New York, she gained valuable experience in the Myopia Control Clinic, where she provided care aimed at slowing the progression of myopia in children through orthokeratology (Ortho-K), multifocal contact lenses, and atropine therapy. She remains passionate about helping children and their families explore evidence-based strategies to reduce the risk of developing high myopia. Outside the clinic, Dr. Chan enjoys exploring Vancouver’s diverse food scene and discovering new restaurants. Dr. Chan is fluent in English and Cantonese and speaks conversational Mandarin.
